Mayor Boughton is seeking a fourth term. Before being elected Mayor,
Boughton served as State Representative of the 138th District, and was a history teacher at Danbury High School. Abrantes was on the Common Council in the 1990's during the Eriquez Administration. She also served as City Clerk, and was defeated by current City Clerk, Jean Natale, in the Republican landslide victory of 2003.Abrantes has been focusing a lot on over development, and trying to bring Danbury back to the positive days of what it used to be
like, something she claims has changed. Boughton continues to talk about the lists of accomplishments that he has. He has also said that he is going to "run on his record and vision for the future".Unfortunately, this race is going to be yet again overshadowed by the race for Town Clerk. Despite this, depending on the issues that Abrantes will criticize Mayor Boughton on could be what makes the difference in this election. However, Boughton has a positive record that he constantly brings up. Abrantes' only hope may be to criticize the Mayor more than focus on the positives that she brings to the race.
Right now, Mayor Boughton has the upper hand.

Personally, I think this race will be more about Boughton's record as Mayor and less about Abrantes.
If Helena can point out Boughton's failures and place Boughton on the defensive (something he's not good at dealing with), and if the Democratic Party can work together (something they didn't do in '05), then she has a real shot at winning this thing.
The Republicans in Danbury never had a real GOTV campaign to speak of and the Democrats can get the votes out if they rally their base. Boughton record between 05-07 will come back to haunt him.
Abantes is an illegal alien panderer who has no plans for anything.
She will never win.
Boughton again by another LANDSLIDE!
She has outlined her plans on various shows and statements if you have been watching. Also as much as Boughton moans and groans about it there is NOTHING he can do about the illegal problem, it is a federal issue that should be the focus of our congresspeople and senators.
Right now: Boughton 55% and Abrantes 45%
Boughton's problem is the same one he had in '05, which is he pissed off the moderate and independent voters.
If you think the Cappiello and Giegler Republicans are happy with Boughton, you're dreaming. Abrantes has quite a bit to do but beating Boughton this year is possible. If anything, the Republican can kiss the majority rule of the Common Council goodbye as well as City Clerk.
Boughton 65% Abrantes 35% if she is lucky. Boughton has had much success 05' and 07', Parking Garage, Police Station, Kaplanis Field, Magnet School, Sprayscapes etc. etc. Low taxes, strong economy with low unemployement. Abrantes couldn't even run the City Clerks Office everyday without bursting into tears..
