The City Treasurer, City Clerk, Town Clerk

The following is a continuing of the elected officials series.

City Treasurer:

Daniel P. Jowdy

Dan Jowdy was elected Treasurer in 2003 when Republicans swept into control of the city. He beat Democrat Emile Buzaid by almost 2,000 votes. He was re-elected in 2005 beating Democrat Mike McGetrick by about 900 votes. Jowdy is said to be very good at being able to work across party lines, and gets great support from all sides.

City Clerk:

Jean Natale

Jean Natale was elected City Clerk defeating Helena Abrantes in 2003 by about 1700 votes. In 2005 she beat Democrat Eileen Coladarci by much less than her first election. Natale only beat her opponent by about 200 votes in order to win a second term. It has been said that she should expect to have a tough race in 2007 when she runs for a third term as Democrats will try to take back the seat (and the city).

Town Clerk:

Lori Kaback

Lori Kaback is the only Democrat of the top four officials in Danbury. She was elected in 2005 defeating the incumbent Republican, Joe Scozafava. Kaback beat him by over 1,500 votes in the hottest contested race of the year. She was previously the assistant Town Clerk under Scozafava, and decided to challenge him herself. She is also up for re-election in 2007. Her ability to attract people from all sides of the aisle is what has made her so well liked.

God Bless Gerald R. Ford

As many of you know the thirty-eighth President, Gerald Ford, has passed away at the age of 93. He was the only President not elected in his own right because he took office after Nixon resigned in 1974. President Ford united this country and put faith back into our government. God Bless Gerald Ford, a good person, and a great American.
"Even though this is late in an election year, there is no way we can go forward except together and no way anybody can win except by serving the people's urgent needs. We cannot stand still or slip backwards. We must go forward now together."
- President Gerald Ford

The Mayor

This is going to be the first of many posts containing an inside look at many of our elected officials in Danbury.

Mayor :
Mark D. Boughton

Mayor Boughton was first elected in 2001 beating Democrat Chris Setaro by only 139 votes. Prior to this he served in the Connecticut General Assembly representing the 138th House District. He was elected to that in 1998 and re-elected in 2000. He was also a history teacher at Danbury High School from 1987 until he became Mayor. In 2003 Mayor Boughton led his party to victory while not only being re-elected, but by sweeping Republicans into office all across the ticket. He beat Democrat Tom Arconti by almost 3,000 votes and made the City Treasurer, City Clerk, and Town Clerk offices all held by Republicans. The Common Council also became a 17-4 Republican majority. The Mayor ran for a third term in 2005, and single handily defeated his Democratic rival Dean Esposito, receiving 58% of the vote. Republicans lost the Town Clerk's office, and also three Council seats. Boughton will be up for an unprecedented fourth term in 2007. He has been said to be a rising star in the Republican Party in Connecticut. Mayor Boughton has been known for his phrase of "People Over Politics Equals Progress", and his ability to work across party lines. He has been criticized on his illegal immigration policies, and his way of trying to fix the problem. Many immigration groups have protested against him, though a large percent of citizens in Danbury approve of his handling.

Welcome!

Well, this is the start of something great. We live in a very interesting city with many things that happen politically. Despite a very big Democratic control on this city during the 90's ever since 2003 the Republicans have taken control of the city. This blog will look at the political spectrum of the city of Danbury, CT. Hope you enjoy, and check back often (maybe I will throw in some national news sometimes too).
