Interesting Input

Recently, there has been much talk regarding the sex-offender letters that are being sent home to parents of students. Today, there was an interesting "Letter to the Editor" in the News-Times about this. The writer mentions that the letters will only be sent home to the parents of students enrolled in the Danbury Public School System, not those of private schools. They do not feel that this is right.

You can read the entire letter here, but the following is a strong point that was included in the letter:

Certainly, all of Danbury's children should receive equal consideration as far as their safety is concerned.

Now, to to tell you the truth, I think that it is a shame that students, from Danbury High School's Peer Leadership, had to be the ones that brought this issue up. They deserve so much praise, even more than what they have been receiving. I have to admit that the writer who wrote this letter made a very strong point, but I also believe that every household in Danbury should receive a letter of city sex-offenders. It's about our safety --- something that is too deeply important.

Actaully the writer didn't make a strong point because she was completely wrong and should have checked the facts before writing a letter to the editor. The Mayor not only sent the letters to all students in public schools but he also contact all private schools asking them to participate. The principals of the private schools however chose not to and the letter to the editor should have targeted them. Not just that but how about if this writter had actually called city hall first or her child's principal like I did 6 weeks ago when I first heard about the mailing instead of just jumping to conclusions.

I can't blame the writter because the media has only talked about public school students. I did see errors in the letter especially at the end but maybe the news should be the ones that should be blamed.

I would blame the writter, you shouldn't accuse someone of something in the media unless you know for sure that what you are accusing them of is true, especially if you are questioning their intentions. Shame on the writter!

Oh good grief, enough with the sex offender "election year gimmick."

If this mayor was so serious about the sen offender ordinance, he would have fix the idiotic problems with the proposal before sending it to the Common Council for approval.

1. If an offender is caught in a child safety zone, he has to be caught in the same safety zone in order to be in violation of the ordinance. Does this make any sense? No! When an amendment was made to fix the ordinance place a offender is violation of the ordinance is he is found in ANY child safety zone two times, the mayor and the Republicans voted against it in order to rush the proposal through because his PR campaign was already in place.

If this is the defining issue wins the mayor the election, then everyone in Danbury are being fooled. Keep babbling about sex offender nonsense while the mayor does more deals with developers, raises our sewer rates, and screws the city out of property taxes with tax deferrals to going to residential developers (something that has NEVER been done in the history of this city).

Again, if he's serious about this, why not FIX THE ORDINANCE?!? It was proposed back in December and the ad-hoc committee was formed in January to address the issue YET the committee hasn't even met yet.

I've had enough.

The sex offender ordinance is a ggod one. Sewer and Water rates are not going up (why do you lie?). Tax deferals are a good tool to encourage development in our downtown.

Just like the Democrats gave Joe DaSilva the delinquent tax payer and owner of the Palace theater and who rents headquarters to the Democrats land for free to build condo's. Nice deal there... That stinks to high heaven.

DaSilva doesn't rent the HQ for free
