Democrats Show Senate Interest

Earlier this week I reported that Duane Perkins, Council member of the fifth ward, was seeking the Democratic nomination for the 24th State Senate seat. The News-Times ran a story on this which you can read here.

Manuel Bataguas is also vying for the nomination, however, Perkins is the only one who has filed his candidacy with the Secretary of State. Democrats pick their nominee on May 19th. Republicans are likely to nominate Mike McLachlan at their May 13th convention.

This is the first time since 1998, when David Cappiello was elected, that the 24th Senate seat is open with no incumbent running.
