Yesterday, Republicans in the fifth district nominated State Senator David Cappiello to run for Congress against incumbent Democrat Chris Murphy. You can read it here.
Cappiello has served the 24th State Senate district for the past ten years, while serving four years in the State House prior to that. He announced in April of 2007 his intention to run for this seat.
Murphy's political career is one very similar to Cappiello. He served four years in the State Senate, and prior to that he served four years in the State House. Murphy defeated twenty-four year incumbent Nancy Johnson in 2006 by twelve percentage points to become our Congressman.
This race is anticipated to be a very high profiled one once again. Cappiello has raised close to one million dollars, while Murphy has raised close to two million. This should be fun to watch.
