Michael McLachlan , Mayor Mark Boughton's chief of staff, is highly considering a run for the 24th State Senate seat next year. You can read the article here.
The seat is currently held by David Cappiello, who is running for Congress next year. He has held the seat for the past ten years, and Republicans have held it for a dozen years.
This should end up being a very interesting race to watch. There are a lot of people speculating on which Democrtas may take a shot at the seat, which is in play for them to pick up. Also, we''ll have to see if McLachlan is the only Republican who decides to run.

I don't know how strong a candidate he would be. He knows the issues, but he will need major help getting the support required to get the votes, because he has a weak personal appeal. I think with a strong opponent, the Dems could take this seat.
Dan Jowdy would be a great candidate for this. Very well known and liked and carries both sides of the aisle.
We'll see.
I agree, kind of surprising that Gieglier has not said anything yet. Outside of Cappiello she is the only Danburian with power in Hartford and she represents New Fairfield as well. If this guy does end up being the nominee they may be in trouble. The democrats could have a few popular names in the running for this seat that would win big enough in Danbury to make up a difference that they may lose in the other parts of the district. Think if Bartlett is the dem nom. he could win in Danbury and Bethel which would secure the seat.
I have heard that Giegler isn't interested. Makes sense because she would lose the power she has in the house.
What planet you on? McLachlan has wide appeal on both sides of the aisle and unaffiliated voters. FINALLY he is stepping out on his own after years of helping others. Good luck, Senator McLachlan!
