Mayoral Race Update

Another local blog, The DanburyDan, is reporting that Councilman Tom Saadi is not going to run for Mayor.

Here is what they say:

"Rumor has it that Democratic Councilman Tom Saadi has decided against taking on Mayor Mark Boughton this fall..."
Well ....... now what???

he must have a case of yellow fever....come on Tom, you know you want it! Let's hope its one of the other whahoo Democrats on the council...Lynn Taborsak or Ben Chinese seem to like causing trouble.

Mr. Saadi would be a great candidate as he offers a reasonable voice for the deomocrats. Although he has a family now Fmr. State Rep. Lew Wallace could win if he decieded to run. Short list of dems that could beat the mayor: Saadi, Wallace, Eriquez, L. Taborsak, and don't forget about Dep Speaker Bob Godfrey for the future.

godfrey would never run....taborsak wouldn't be able to pull it off

Trust me when I tell you that no-one, not Saadi, not Wallace, definitely not Eriquez (with all of his baggage, c'mon), is going to beat the Mayor. You people are just whistling past the graveyard!

Don't forget about the deep democratic roots that Danbury's DTC can use. If they get a good candidate they can pull it off. There is a rising anti-Boughton campaign. This past election Murphy won on every machine in every ward, Taborsak topped (well-liked) Seabury with nearly 60%, Godfrey crushed (well-liked) Basso, and Gieglier survived with 55% in the most conservative district in the city. Don't let the 2005 election fool you. Let's be honest Esposito wasn't a strong candidate and the DTC was in disarray. I am not saying that Boughton will lose but the cards are starting to fall in place for the dems.

To add on to that look for more gains for the dems in the Common Council. The 1st, 2nd, and 7th look safe but look for at least one gain in the 3rd as a VERY good candidate may be looking to run. At large members should watch their backs as well. Right now it looks like the dems could also pick up the city clerk spot. Jowdy should be safe as for as treas. goes and there are lots of GOP spots up for grabs on the Board of Ed. with only one dem spot.

i agree with the council and city clerk races....i think the dems will definetly pick up more council seats

No way. The Murphy win was anti-Bush and anti-Johnson. There is no translation to local politics. Local elections are driven by the top of the ticket not some candidate in ward 3. Look for the R's to EXPAND seats on the Council hold onto Mayor, Treasurer,City Clerk and make serious run at Town Clerk.
There is no "anti-Boughton" sentiment, that is just wishful thinking by you D's. A few bloggers and some dopes on TV they do not change the election.

Word has it that Saadi conducted a poll and Boughton was untouchable this year (I got polled, anyone else?), that is why he backed out. That is also why we are down to third tier candidates for the D's. Otherwise everybody would be in.

Word also has it that Boughton has already raised a ton of money.

you may be right, but remember the dems picked up 3 council seats in 2005 when boughton won big

If you think the GOP will pick up seats in the council you are out of your mind. You should know that the council races are very local and I never said that it would affect the top of the ticket. But if I were Mr. Calandrino and even Cavo I would be nervous, Jim Kelly came close with a bad running mate and if he runs again with this person they may take both spots. As far as mayor it does look good for Boughton but he is not 100% safe. Treasurer is safe as Jowdy has lots of friends on both sides. The best race at the top of the ticket WILL be city clerk should Abrantes or Colardarci decide to run against Jean Natale. The town clerk should be as safe for Kaback as Treas. is for Jowdy. Also I can remember all you R's saying last year that Seabury and Gallagher were easy wins and that Basso might take it. Don't be too optimistic...it looks like YOUR governor is even starting to drift to the left as are the people in Danbury.

i didn't hear anyone say that basso could have won....and we new a seabury win would be by the smallest of margins
